The sudden onset of school building closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic created many technical challenges for schools, teachers, students, and families. Remote instruction and learning is a new practice for most teachers, and successful programs relied on a well-crafted integration of technology, pedagogy, empathy, and a little bit of luck.
While few edtech leaders can claim a long history of pandemic experience, my role as innovation specialist gave me a unique focus, not only on effective hardware solutions, but also on best teaching practices in a remote setting.
Since March 2020, my primary focus has been to deconstruct and analyze effective and ineffective strategies for remote learning, and to develop tools, PD, and hardware plans to help teachers and students navigate the newly virtual world of education.
